Untitled (Small Head)

Hughie O'Donoghue

O'Donoghue's first concentrated period of printmaking was in 1988-89 and resulted in two broad groups of work: heads related to a painting entitled Bruise, and full-length figures related to a series of pictures on the theme of Descent, which refer at times obliquely to the Descent from the Cross. The first of these prints, Untitled (Small Head) (1988), was produced as O'Donoghue's contribution to a portfolio for Amnesty International entitled Freedom, comprising prints by several artists. The print is one of four images of a head that O'Donoghue worked on at this time.
