Lucio Fontana

This work was created to accompany the 1966 republication of Fontana's famous manifesto Documenti e Personaggi 1: Manifiesto Blanco 1946, by Galleria Apollinaire in Milan. This important book was the last publication of Fontana's for a retrospective/homage to his work at the Galleria Apollinaire. It reproduced, in full, his original Manifiesto Blanco from 1946 in which he set forth the parameters for his art movement, “spatialism”, which was going to revolutionise post-war Italian art. 5 deluxe copies of the book were enriched with a large and significant original work by the artist, of which this is one.

The deluxe copy of the book accompanies this work and has the following description:

Folio (18 3/4 x 12 7/8 in; 477 x 327 mm), unbound as issued, publisher wrappers and slipcase, numerous full-page reproductions of works of Fontana, in colours, with the facsimile of the Manifesto Blanco of 1946 which the artist elaborated with his pupils from the Academy of Altamira; one of the very rare 5 deluxe copies, n° 2, with the autograph colophon signed by Lucia Fontana, justifying the copy to "La Libreria La Balance di Bruxelles. Lucio Fontana. Milano 23.1.67".
